It is named after Achilles from Greek mythology. (Brad Pitt played him in the movie Troy.) In Greek mythology the mother of Achilles was promised by the Gods that if she dipped her son in the river Styx, he would become invincible. She held him by the spot which we refer to as the achilles tendon or achilles heel. Because her hands were covering that spot, that was the only body part not covered in water. So, Achilles was invulnerable all over his body except for that one spot. During the battle of Troy, Achilles was struck by an arrow in his achilles tendon. He got an infection and died from that wound. That is where the name achilles tendon comes from. The name for one reason or another stuck throughout all these years. That is also why someones biggest weakness is referred to as an achilles heel. Your achilles is a tendon on the rear of your foot. It is where your leg stops and your foot begins on the back side. It connects to your calcaneus which is the bone on the rear of your foot here is a picture: http://www.profitness.net.nz/articles_fi..
